THE ST. JOHN’S POTTERY
The St. John's Pottery in Collegeville, Minnesota, situated on the St. John's University campus, is a well-known pottery studio recognized for its exceptional ceramics and pottery. Founded by renowned potter Richard Bresnahan, it combines traditional craftsmanship with local materials, serving as a hub for local and visiting artists. While brief, my time at St. John’s left a deep impact. Dedication to craft and emphasis on community are something that Richard Bresnahan makes palpable when you visit. Richard's energy, passion, kindness and knowledge are like a forest fire that devours everything in it's path. It leaves you exhausted, but there's a new growth that happens. You come away with a deeper appreciation for so many new things. All this and I was only there for two days and spoke with him just a handful of times. These photographs from my time spent around the kiln are a testament to the labor and community that is fostered through a craft as old as time itself.
