DOCUMENTARY
With a deep passion for documentary photography, I find immense joy in capturing genuine, beautiful, and sometimes difficult moments as they unfold, using photography as a means to preserve precious memories and help tell stories of individuals and organizations. I strive to connect with my subjects and through that process create images that foster a shared connection with viewers.
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION IN INDONESIA
In 2016, I embarked on a trip with Kingdom Workers to Indonesia with the purpose of documenting a Christian day school that the organization supports. During my visit, I had the privilege of immersing myself in the daily activities of the school, engaging with the students and their dedicated teachers. It was an incredibly rewarding experience to capture moments from their educational journey and showcase the affection they held for their instructors and educational environment.
ELS MILITARY MONUMENT DEDICATION
Twenty years ago, the Evangelical Lutheran Synod veterans and their families wanted a monument to honor U.S. armed forces. In 2013, a committee was formed to study its feasibility. In 2017, artist Jason Jaspersen was commissioned for the concept design, and fundraising began. The groundbreaking took place on November 11, 2019. Construction started in May 2022 after receiving numerous donations. The monument features two bronze warrior statues and seven pillars representing the branches of the armed forces. These are the images I made during the dedication service on June 20, 2023.
CHRISTIAN ORPHANAGE IN MYANMAR
During my collaboration with Christinas Forward Southeast Asia (CFSA), an organization dedicated to working with small communities, I had the opportunity to visit various small villages in Myanmar. As part of this job, I found myself at a small orphanage located outside Yangon. This particular visit was an enriching occasion where I had the privilege of spending an entire day with the children, watching them play games and share meals. The atmosphere exuded their genuine affection and contagious happiness, as they welcomed me into their lives.
THE ST. JOHN’S POTTERY
In 2019 I had an opportunity to spend two days at The St. John's Pottery in Collegeville, Minnesota with my good friend and colleague Jason Jaspersen. I went in with my camera, my curiosity, and little else. These images were from my time spent around the kiln documenting the work needed to keep the largest kiln in North America going all day and night.
THAILAND MEDICAL CLINICS
In 2018, as part of my involvement with CFSA, I embarked on a journey to Thailand, accompanied by a team of dedicated nurses and local partners. Our purpose was to visit multiple rural villages and provide essential healthcare services through a series of temporary clinics. Over the course of two weeks, I documented the impactful work carried out by our team in collaboration with local supporters. These visual records played a crucial role in raising awareness and garnering support for CFSA, effectively conveying the narrative of their widespread efforts throughout Thailand.
