Pipestone National Monument

On our way back from a family trip to Volga, SD we decided to stop off at Pipestone National Monument in Pipestone, MN. Pipestone National Monument is a sacred and culturally significant site for Native American tribes, known for its unique red pipestone quarries. We explored the quarries, learned about the cultural heritage of the area, and watched traditional stone carving by a local artist.

It was a wildly windy day which mad the hike even more exciting. While we hiked the camera (Fujifilm X100T) was passed around between all my kids. The images below are a collection of the images we all captured on our walk. It is always so rewarding to see the enjoyment my kids get out of little adventures like this. I’ve also been experimenting with making my own Lightroom presets so this online sketchbook feels like a good place to freely test out different styles and presets.
