Contentment

I had a project for my master's program where I had to create something related to the theme of contentment. Over Thanksgiving break, I seized the opportunity to make images of the quiet moments shared with my family. Images like these serve as a reminder to be present and grateful for the time spent with my loved ones. Despite much of my time throughout my average day being consumed by preparation, concerns, and future planning, the camera enables me to concentrate on the present. It's a way for me to continually acknowledge the blessings God has give me and experience contentment in the here and now.

There is something that happens when you fully commit to making images, I feel deeply connected to the moment in front of me and I’m able to recall it so vividly while looking back at the photographs, even years later. When it comes to family time like this I’m cognizant of the fact that I’m not enjoying the present in the way my family is, but making images like this periodically throughout the day is a way to cement these little treasures for myself and my family.

Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
— Matthew 6:25-26
